Wilson Bruce is a dedicated student athlete who’s work ethic on the gridiron, the baseball diamond and in the classroom, are second to none; James Vernon WHS Offensive Line Coach says, “he is the embodiment of an overachiever, who is gritty, tough and mean. He’s never missed a single practice as a starter and was unanimously selected by area coaches to the 1st Team All-Big Bend and 1st Team FACA All-State Selection the past two seasons. He led his team in pin blocks, performance grade and only allowed one sack in two seasons.”

Coaches Comments:

James Vernon (WHS Football Offensive Line/Run Game Coach):
Wilson Bruce is the embodiment of an over-achiever. He has an understanding of the game from the offensive-line position that is only surpassed by myself and our head coach. We could bring the offense to the sideline during a game to make adjustments and they would say, ‘Coach, Bruce already told us that.’

He made all the calls in both the run game and passing game for the last two years. He always put the offense in the best position to be successful. He was also gritty, tough and mean. He never missed a single practice as a starter and was unanimously selected by the area coaches as a 1st Team All-Big Bend and 1st Team FACA All-State Selection for the past two seasons. He led the team in pin blocks, performance grade, and only allowed one sack in two seasons. This is while all the time making all the in-game calls and adjustments. He is extremely coachable and hard-working. He watches film, asks questions, and accepts his hard coaching when a mistake is made. This is a truly dying quality in young athletes today. I have had the pleasure of coaching 14 years as the O-line/run-game coordinator at Wakulla High. We have won 6 district championships, three regional championships, and had two state title appearances. I have coached countless collegiate athletes and many on the O-line. Wilson Bruce is in my top-five, all-time. He wills himself to success and is respected by all area coaches as why our team has been so dominant the last several seasons.

John Cooper (WHS Offensive Line Coach):
Wilson Bruce has been my center for the past two years and has held everything together. He was the brain to our unit and gave communications across the line of our calls. Majority of his career he faced Nose Guards and 1-Techniques with a huge size advantages; yet he never left a game without multiple pin blocks on his grade. He plays with a chip on his shoulder and has never missed a snap.

Keith Anderson (WHS Head Baseball Coach):
Wilson Bruce has been a mainstay in the Wakulla HS Baseball program for the last 3 years and I am looking forward to his leadership this upcoming spring. He is a talented player that hits for power and average and is a good defender at first base. He is an aggressive base runner and his knowledge of the game is a plus. Wilson is a fierce competitor and a hard worker. He not only is a good player but also excels in the classroom. He is a multiple sport athlete that also takes a full load of dual enrollment classes (Tallahassee CC) in addition to his high school requirements. Wilson sets a good example off the field also. He not only is active in his church, but he spends a lot of time at our local recreation park mentoring young athletes by coaching and officiating various sports throughout the year. Wilson has a bright future ahead of him.
