Landon Bennett recently set a new Georgia High School record for place kicking by making 17 consecutive FGs with 50% over 40 yards long (the Georgia record was 16 and the California record is 15). As a 2007 graduating senior at Greater Atlanta Christian School (GACS) in Norcross, Georgia, he is in the final stages of selecting the college at which he plans to study Business Management and kick for the football team.

Says Landon:

Although I’m proud about my statistical accomplishment, it is merely one indicator that measures my skill & capacity to contribute at the collegiate level. On kick-offs, our scheme calls for me to land the ball directly over the numbers between the end zone & five yard line. Over 85% of time I can hit that four-yard-square target with an average hang time of 3.9 seconds. As a freshman college player I will kick 70 yards on average with a 4.1 second hang time & at 90% accuracy to any designated coverage lane (off a one inch kick-off tee). My sophomore year, hitting the back of the end zone with 4.3 second hang time is realistic based on my rigorous training plans & my off season expert coaching. Most of the time my PATs & FGs will enter the middle 2 yards of the goal post well above the top of a 30 foot tall goal post which makes it very hard for even a very tall player to block kicks.

For the past 4 years I focused much of my energy on baseball (I also was selected on “Georgia’s Top 30” baseball HS players). As a top pitcher & hitter I learned to control my balance/timing under pressure. The same capabilities & skills are what make me the most consistent kicker in HS over the past 2 years. It may seem easy & everyone looks like a kicker during practice but kicking through a 6 yard wide goal post under game time pressure takes a unique athlete.

GACS is a private preparatory school located in the most competitive county in Georgia (Gwinnett County with 18 HSss) & rivals many small colleges. The school competes for State championships in nearly every sport (GACS has won the Georgia Directors cup multiple times). The #1 running back in America, Calib King, just signed with UGA and joins a long list of college football players who played for GACS. Cole Chason was our last big time kicker who currently starts for Clemson & was coached by the same coaches who have developed my skills.

The Gwinnett County area has produced some of the top kickers in the Country as evidence in UGA All American Brandon Contu, former UGA All American Billy Bennett, UA All SEC Jamie Christensen to name a few. Many of these players practice together in the off-season at GACS with other Atlanta area kickers who also play at college level. It provides me a big advantage over other college kickers who do not have access to top training partners like we do in Gwinnett County.

Although my skills are at a high level already they will improve even more with this kicking network & the off season coaching of some of the best kicking experts in the Country. After watching many college teams lose games because of a missed FG this season, I know my capabilities will help you win more games next year. I had not missed in 3 years & if not for a few blocks I may have never missed… I would like to break every college kicking record if given the chance in college.
