Phillips Named Freshman All America

Eric Phillips(Carrollton H.S.) was named Second Team Freshman All-America by Ping!Baseball.
Phillips was selected as a utility infielder by Ping!Baseball. Seeing action mainly at first base, 100-1099Phillips was the only Eagle in years to start at every infield position (30 at 1st base; 3 at second base; 1 at shortstop; 12 at third base; 2 at designated hitter), starting 48 times in 51 games played.
He finished his rookie year batting .333 with 43 runs scored, 45 RBI, 13 doubles and four home runs. He walked as many times (18) as he struck out in 195 at-bats. Phillips, who spent most of the Southern Conference schedule batting clean-up, led the Eagles with a .413 batting average in league play scoring 26 runs and driving in 28 in 26 games played.
Named to the SoCon All-Freshman Team, Phillips also came through in the clutch batting .615 with the bases loaded and recorded 17 RBI in 22 opportunities with a runner on third base and less than two outs. He recorded a .984 fielding percentage on the year, playing a role in 36 of the team’s 60 double plays turned.

Pugh Commits To Georgia Southern

Brent Pugh, Catcher/Infielder, Class of 2009, The Wesleyan School, Norcross, GA. will continue his baseball bpughhrcareer at the collegiate level and has committed to Georgia Southern University, Statesboro, GA.  Brent is a true team player who is willing to do whatever it takes to help his team win; and has been an instrumental factor in the Wolves winning the AA State Championship his junior and senior years.  He possesses solid fundamentals and can compete at multiple positions (SS,2B,3B). As a catcher; receiving, he has excellent blocking skills with good agility and quick lateral movement. He knows his pitching staff and how to handle each one. His easy relaxed manner behind the plate make him a favorite among the pitchers.  Congratualtions Brent continued success at the next level.

Stevenson Signs Colorado Northwestern Softball

img_1628Haley Stevenson, Dunwoody H.S. Softball Standout and recent graduate, Class of 2009, will be contining her athletic career at Colorado Northwestern College. Haley’s a team leader who has been Team Captain her Junior and Senior years.  She has been a 4 year Varsity Starter and can compete at multiple positions.  Haley has pitched, and competed effectively at third and first base.  Through hard work she has earned a starting position every year she has played.  Congratulations Haley continued success.

Velez Regional Director Puerto Rico

Mr. Jose Velez, of Bayamon Puerto Rico, was named as  C.H.A.M.P.S. Regional Director.  We 4681_1003798713576_1783115539_3454_5149059_swould like to welcome Mr. Velez on board and look forward to the opportunity of helping aspiring high school athlete’s in Puerto Rico, “Compete at the next level”.

Mr. Velez comes to C.H.A.M.P.S. with an array of experience.  He’s a retired Federal Service Employee who served in that capacity for over 30 years.  In addition, he served in the U.S. Army and saw duty in Iraq, as a logistics specialist, serving the military in all parts of the globe.
